The principal initiates the school news and announcements over the loudspeaker along with a video production by students that is lead by the media specialist. At the end of the school day the principal makes another announcement and dismisses the students and staff for the day. The student news production consists of the pledge, weather, daily lunch menu, word of the day and a segment titled "Today in History". The announcments are all student centered. The criteria selection for the group of nine students is based on their grades, conduct and assertiveness. The students will work together for nine weeks and each person will hold the title of "producer". The producer is the leader for the week and they are able to make the final decisions for the morning productions.
A media room is available to do the recordings and live productions. Each morning the student body will tune into channel 12 to view the morning announcements. The students are also able to view the weather channel during inclement weather conditions, PBS, all of the local channels and special viewings during the holidays. The media specialist, principal and the IT department are the only authorized users of the distribution system. All teachers are required to submit suggestions to the media specialist for consideration.
Each classroom is wired so that all teachers can receive GPB Online Streaming via their laptop computers. This allows the teachers easier access for lesson planning and instruction without leaving the classroom setting.

I feel it is absolutely wonderful your school has a format and channel through which school news is facilitated. In my opinion, this not only sets a precedence for how communication strategies should be carried out, but also gives students an excellent foundation and lesson in unity and school pride.
It is so amazing to me that at the high school level (at least at my school), this format doesn't exist. It is almost as if youngerstudents receive richer educations than those who are uch older.
I have said many times during this blog session and I will say it again... I truly wish our school had some provisions for providing school news in a live format that was appealing to all. Unfortunately, we are in a most antiquated state and sadly, I do not see any end in sight. If given the opportunity however, I would work to incorporate most if not all of the formatting you referenced as well as incorporate some other wonderful ideas reflected in the blogs of Blah Blah Bloggers and 4Peas in a Pod.
Thanks for sharing,
Jami
It is great that your school seems to be technology advanced and the teachers are able to use the streaming elements to enhance their lessons. To you select a different news production crew every nine weeks. We have about 20 students total, but we use the same ones (alternating days) all year long. We found that this helps us train them better and gives them more experience. Although it probably doesn't involve as many students as your school does. I liked that you do the weather. I think I will add that to our annoucements. Maybe what the weather will be for the week also.
